Introduction to Petroleum Accounting

Description:
This seminar has been specifically designed to provide an introduction to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry and a review of the basic accounting principles and procedures in regular use by the industry. Topic areas include: geology, drilling and completions, field facilities, joint venture accounting, production and revenue accounting, and financial and management accounting. Sample Agenda
Instructors:
Mark Lane
Mark Lane began working in the earth sciences in 1980 and has a gained a wide variety of related experience. His employers have included large international oil and gas companies, small and mid-sized seismic service companies, universities, and technical institutes. His career has ranged through oil and gas exploration, geophysical research, computer programming, and employee development. For the past eight years Mr. Lane has been teaching geophysics and geology to both specialists and non-specialists. He is currently providing training services through his company Mentromorphic Consulting Ltd.
Lorie Linberg
Lorie has been working in the oilpatch for 34 years and has been consulting for the past 18 years. She consults in oil and gas production accounting related work for several companies in Calgary. Lorie has been teaching for the past 24 years for CAPPA, PASC, and various other organizations.
Richard Mackelvie – CMA, B. Commerce (Honours)
In June 2008, Richard joined Canadian Natural as a Joint Venture Auditor. Richard's qualifications include: Professional accounting designation qualification - Certified Management Accountant (CMA) (1989) and Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Ottawa, School of Business (1983). In addition Richard has over 30 years of audit and accounting experience with senior and mid-size oil and gas upstream companies (mostly JV and vendor audits).
Monique Tenn
Monique Tenn has been working in the oil and gas industry for over 25 years. Although she started her career at Dome Petroleum Limited, she has worked in the junior sector for the last 15 years. She is a consulting controller providing financial reporting services to both public and private companies, and survived the process of transitioning to IFRS. She is currently controller at Westbrick Energy Ltd, a privately-held company.
Brandt Tracey, P. Eng
Brandt is a drilling engineer with Devon Energy and has experience in a variety of different well types across Alberta and Saskatchewan. His experience includes thermal delineation, SAGD horizontal well pairs, slant wells for cold flow heavy oil, conventional horizontal wells, directional wells, and extended reach horizontal wells. Brandt graduated from the University of Calgary in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Oil & Gas Engineering. His 9 years of industry experience also include open hole wireline logging and reserve evaluation.
Tracy Kozak
Tracy Kozak has been in the oil and gas industry for 17 years. She has worked at Baytex Energy Ltd. for 14 of those years. During her time in the industry she has had various roles within the accounting department. She has experience in Accounts payable, Non-Operated Joint Venture, Operated Joint Venture, Audits, Payouts and most recently the Capital accounting department.
